The Giuseppe Verdi Municipal Theatre is one of the most beautiful buildings of the city. Inaugurated in 1872 with the representation of the “Rigoletto“, it was the springboard for important artists such as Enrico Caruso, Titta Ruffo, Gino Bechi and Italo Taio.
Due to severe damage following the 1980 earthquake, the theatre was closed for nearly 14 years.
Reopened in 1994, it is among the few theatre in Italy with a perfectly preserved wooden structure. The theatre, located near the historic centre of Salerno, can accommodate about 800 spectators (240 in the stalls, 360 in the boxes and 200 in the gallery).
