[cml_media_alt id='2170'] Museo Ceramiche del Castello[/cml_media_alt]

The Arechi Castle dominates the city of Salerno at 300 meters above sea level. In the VIII century, the Lombard Prince Arechi II strengthened its defensive structure, giving it its current embattled image. Recent excavations made it possible to define the chronology of the different layers of the settlement up to the Norman, Angevin and Aragonese era.

After a long period in a state of neglect, the fort has recently been restored and its usability has been reinstated. The museum, located in the Aragonese part of the castle, includes ceramics fragments and vases, dating from the XII to the XV century, found during the restoration work.

The structure, equipped with halls for conferences and congresses, is owned by the Province of Salerno and it is also home to temporary exhibitions and a library, specialized in the study of fortification works.
