La Carnale Fort was part of a defensive system build to to counter enemy attacks.
Consisting of towers raised to cope with Saracen raids, the structure originally overlooked the sea, but was resized and restored over time.
According to some historians, the name of this monument is to be attributed to a massacre of Saracens which took place in the year 872 in the area where the Fort stands.
